When exporting, Enginy first looks for an existing record in Odoo. If it finds one it updates it, and if not it creates one.
How it decides is covered in the article on identifying existing records.
Important: Where your contacts land depends on Default object when exporting in Sync configuration. Set to Contact they become Odoo contacts; set to Lead the same export creates Odoo leads instead. Check it before your first run — it is not something you can undo by re-exporting.
What gets written
The fields you have mapped with the Enginy overwrites Odoo option are written. Those set to Sync with Odoo keep whatever value already existed in Odoo.
Contacts and their company
If you enable the association, Enginy links each exported contact to its company in Odoo.
Important: When creating that link, Odoo copies the company address over the contact's own. This is Odoo's own behavior. If you store personal addresses that differ from the head office, review it before exporting in bulk.
What happens when a record fails
This sets Odoo apart from other CRMs and is worth understanding.
Odoo processes creations in bulk, and if a single record breaks a rule, it rejects the whole batch. So that one bad record does not sink an export of hundreds, Enginy isolates the culprit: it splits the batch, retries, and repeats until it finds the problematic record.
The outcome is what you would expect:
The correct records are still created.
The failing one appears with its reason in the export report.
No record is created halfway.
Note: This is why an export containing a problematic record takes longer than usual: Enginy is narrowing down which one it is. It is not stuck.
Lost leads
When you export a lead and the only match in Odoo is marked as lost, the Lost lead on export setting comes into play:
Option | What it does |
Create a new lead | Leaves the lost lead as it is and creates a new one. This is the default. |
Update the lost lead | Updates the lost lead's fields without taking it out of the lost state. |
Note: In neither case does Enginy reopen a lead. If the sales team marked it lost, it stays lost. This is deliberate: an automated export should not undo a commercial decision.
The country
If Enginy cannot match the country against Odoo's list, it skips that field and exports the record anyway. You do not lose a contact over a misspelled country; it simply arrives without one.
Owner
Each exported record is assigned to an Odoo user. You can set a default owner in the configuration and change it on each export.
The record is then subject to that user's permissions in Odoo.
Speed
Odoo publishes no rate limits, but on Odoo Online the practical pace is one request per second, with no parallelism. A large export takes time.
Before a large export
Test with two or three records and check the result in Odoo.
Confirm the configured identifier is the one you actually use.
Check in the Permissions tab that the API key can create and update that entity.
Run the full volume.
