Note: An export can do two different things: create or update a Person or Company record and, if you choose, add that record to an Attio List. They are separate operations, so it is worth checking the result of both.
Before you start
Check the following:
Attio shows as connected under Integrations.
You have configured matching and Field Mapping.
The destination Lists already exist in Attio.
If a List has required attributes, you know what value each one will receive.
The selected records have the data you will use to identify them, for example LinkedIn or email for People and domain for Companies.
Exporting records step by step
Select the contacts or companies you want to send from Enginy.
Click
Export to CRM.Choose Attio as the destination.
If
Review Mappingappears, use it to check the configuration before continuing.Decide whether you also want to export the associated records. For example, you can send the Company associated with a Person.
If you want to add the records to a List, select it under Add contacts to list (optional) or Add companies to list (optional).
Fill in Custom list attributes if the List requires them.
Click
Export.Review the activity report to check how many records were exported and whether there were warnings.
Tip: If Review Mapping does not open the configuration, go to Integrations, open Attio and go to Configure. Save your changes and start the export again.
What happens if the record already exists
Enginy first looks for a match using the matching rules you configured.
If it finds one, it updates that record.
If it does not, it creates a new Person or Company.
Empty fields in Enginy do not delete data in Attio.
A field with a value can replace the existing value if you turned on Overwrite existing value for that field.
If you turned on Sync with Attio, Enginy keeps the non-empty Attio value and only fills the field in when it is empty there.
Sync with Attio acts during the export. It is not a continuous or two-way sync.
Exporting People with their Company
When exporting a Person you can include their associated Company. Enginy creates or updates both records and writes the Company reference into the Person.
Keep in mind that Attio uses a single company attribute in this flow. The export can replace the reference the Person already had. Review this case carefully if a person works with several companies, or if you maintain manual associations in Attio.
Adding records to a List
A List is not the main record. When you add a Person or Company, Attio creates or updates an Entry pointing at that record.
If the Entry already exists, Enginy reuses it and updates the values sent.
The export does not create new Lists.
It does not remove records from a List.
It does not delete existing Entries.
A record can be created correctly even if adding it to the List fails.
If you see the record in Attio but not inside the chosen List, review that List's required attributes and the activity report.
Custom list attributes
You can assign a fixed value or take it from an Enginy field. The safest types in this integration are:
Attio type | How to configure it | Example |
Text | Type a fixed value or choose an Enginy field. | Source: Enginy |
Number | Use a valid numeric value. | Priority: 3 |
User, actor-reference | Select a specific member of the Attio workspace. | Entry owner |
Attio's complex types, such as multiple references, location or advanced selectors, can require a format this screen does not generate. Test with a few records before using them in a large export.
About Owner and User Mapping
The generic Owner selector and the User Mapping section do not reliably assign a native owner to the Person or Company record in Attio.
If your List has a User attribute, you can choose an Attio member under Custom list attributes. That value is stored on the List Entry, not as the record's general owner.
How to validate the result
After exporting, open a sample in Attio and check:
That no duplicates were created.
That the expected fields have the right value.
That the Person is linked to the correct Company.
That the record appears in the chosen List.
That the Entry attributes were filled in.
For your first test, use two or three records and a test List. When the result is what you expect, scale up the volume.
