How to research and qualify your contacts — AI Research

Learn how to use AI Research to automatically investigate your contacts and companies before reaching out

You can create an AI Research from the sidebar or from any list.

From the sidebar:

  1. Go to AI Research in the left menu, under Find and Enrich.

  2. Click Create AI Research.

From a list:

  1. Open any contact or company list.

  2. Click the + button that appears between columns.

  3. Select New AI Research.

In both cases, the Create New AI Research modal opens, with two options:

Option 1 — Use Enginy Picks (recommended)

Enginy Picks is Enginy’s curated prompt library — validated, ready-to-use prompts organized by category. It’s the fastest path if you don’t want to write a prompt from scratch.

Some available categories include:

  • Profile Enrichment — for example, LinkedIn activity summary

  • News And Signals — for example, positive company news or recognition signals

  • Account Qualification — for example, ICP account fit score

  • Lead Qualification — for example, the contact’s key pain points

To use Enginy Picks:

  1. In the modal, select the Templates tab.

  2. Choose the prompt that best fits what you want to research.

  3. Select the Contact or Company tab depending on who it applies to.

  4. Fill in the Title, select the Output and the Model.

  5. Click Create.

Note: When you use an Enginy Picks prompt, the Deep Research toggle is locked. Enginy has already configured whether that prompt needs web search or not.

Option 2 — Create a custom one

If none of the Enginy Picks prompts fit your needs, you can write your own prompt.

  1. In the modal, select the Customized tab.

  2. Select the Contact or Company tab.

  3. Fill in the Title and write your prompt.

  4. Select the Output, Category, and Model.

  5. Turn on Deep Research if you need AI to search for information on the web.

  6. Click Generate Preview to test the result before creating it.

  7. Click Create.

Available output types

When creating an AI Research, you choose how you want the result to be returned:

  • Text — a text-format answer

  • Number — a numeric result

  • Date — a date

  • One-of — AI chooses one option from a list that you define (for example: B2B / B2C / Both / Unknown)

  • URL — a link

  • Email — an email address

Tip: The One-of output is the most reliable for qualification. By choosing from predefined options, results are consistent and easy to filter.

How to run an AI Research in your list

Once created, the AI Research appears as a new column in your list. Results are not generated automatically — you have to run it manually.

To run it, click the ▶ button that appears in the column header. While AI processes each row, you’ll see the Processing... status in the cells.

Deep Research — web search

By default, AI Research works with the data you already have in Enginy. If the information you need is not in the record — for example, recent news or the current tech stack — you can enable Deep Research so AI searches the web.

Keep in mind that Deep Research:

  • Is only available for custom prompts (not for Enginy Picks, where it is preconfigured)

  • Can take longer and cost more credits

  • May return cached results for up to approximately 2 days

  • May return “no data” if the information is not publicly available

Turn it on only for fields you don’t already have in Enginy.

What you should know

  • An AI Research can reference other AI Research fields in its prompt, but it cannot reference AI Messages or AI Snippets.

  • AI Research uses the same engine as the previous AI Variables — what has changed is the structure and organization, not the capability.

  • The reverse is supported: an AI Message or AI Snippet can pull in an AI Research result as a variable.
